Nepal Experiences 4.5 Magnitude Earthquake,Epicenter Traced to Chitlang Area

Kathmandu: Nepal experienced a magnitude 4.5 earthquake in the early hours of Thursday, as reported by the Nepal Seismological Centre. The epicenter was located in Chitlang, Makwanpur district, within the Himalayan nation. The seismic activity occurred around 1:20 am (local time), causing no reported casualties.

Nepal is still grappling with the aftermath of a 6.4 magnitude earthquake that struck on November 3, resulting in loss of lives and property. In response, India swiftly sent an emergency aid package, including medical equipment and relief materials, to assist those affected.

The November 3 earthquake, felt even in New Delhi and parts of northern India, claimed 157 lives in Nepal. India, in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Neighbourhood First Policy,” acted as the first responder, sending essential medicines and relief materials to aid the earthquake-affected communities.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted that this rapid response underscores India’s commitment to supporting neighboring nations during crises. On Monday, India dispatched the fourth tranche of earthquake relief support, including critical medical supplies, based on the requirements shared by the Nepal Medical Association.

To date, India has sent over 34 tonnes of emergency relief materials to assist affected families in Nepal following the November 3 earthquake centered in Jajarkot and surrounding areas.
