Kathmandu: Serial killer Charles Sobhraj was released from prison on Friday, days after Nepal’s Supreme Court ordered his release. He was spotted leaving a Nepal jail in a police van, according to AFP.
A passport and visa are being obtained for Sobhraj. Since the serial killer has multiple passports, the French embassy can only begin the visa application procedure once they determine which passport belongs to him.
As per the police, the 78-year-old serial killer, infamously known as the ‘bikini killer’, is reportedly being transferred to immigration custody prior to his deportation to France.
Sobhraj filed a petition for release from custody, and the court granted it on the basis of his advanced age. The court had also accepted his deportation within 15 days of his release.
Sobhraj was arrested for the murder of two American tourists while he was in Nepal in 2003 and was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Sobhraj’s parents were from Vietnam and India, but he is a French citizen.
