New Zealand: Becoming the only second leader to be mother of a child while in office, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden along with her husband Clarke Gayford is blessed with a baby girl and gave birth in an Auckland hospital yesterday.
With the arrival of the baby weighing in at 3.3 kilogrammes, it was the first child for the 37-year-old and her 40-year-old partner Clarke Gayford.
Expressing her happiness after giving birth to the baby, Ms Arden went on to say, “I’m sure we’re going through all of the emotions new parents go through, but at the same time feeling so grateful for all the kindness and best wishes from so many people. Thank you.”
She added on Instagram that the baby was healthy and doing well.
“We’re all doing really well thanks to the wonderful team at Auckland City Hospital.”
Ever since, she has been an outspoken advocate of women’s — particularly mothers’ — rights. “I am not the first woman to multitask,” she told Radio New Zealand. “I am not the first woman to work and have a baby; there are many women who have done this before.”
The news of her birth was announced to her followers on Instagram, where she has also shared photos alongside Barack Obama and Ed Sheeran.
