It is also recommended in the measures that dumping of waste should not be allowed within the 500 metres from the edge of the Ganga on the Haridwar-Unnao stretch and the area within 100 metres of the edge of the Ganges should be declared “no development zone”.

NGT directed the governments of Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand to formulate guidelines for the celebration of festivals along the Ghats of the holy river and its tributaries.

The government of Uttar Pradesh led by CM Yogi Adityanath told NGT that the leather units are the main source of pollution in Ganga. The hunt for a new site where these leather units can be shifted is on.

NGT asked these leather units to set up anti-pollution devices within the time span of four weeks or face the grave consequences, which may also include the closure of these leather units.

NGT has formulated a supervisory committee which will act as a watchdog to see whether the directions made in its 543 page judgement are implemented properly or not.
