NH-48 on Delhi-Gurugram Expressway to be shut for 90 days

Gurugram: Delhi-Gurugram Expressway will remain closed for 3 months from now. In such a situation, passengers coming and going on the expressway may face a lot of trouble. According to officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), a 500 meter stretch of the expressway is planned to be closed for up to 3 months.

The Delhi Traffic Police is working on a plan to close a 500-metre stretch of National Highway-48 (NH-48) on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway for around 90 days to construct a flyover and 2 underpasses. Traffic jams are expected on the already busy road. Traffic police officials said on Friday that the closure near Shiva Murti is meant to allow projects that will connect south Delhi to Dwarka.

According to NHAI officials, one underpass will connect Dwarka Expressway to Nelson Mandela Marg, while the other will connect Dwarka Link Road to NH-48. A flyover will pass over them, which will connect near the CNG pump and near the Shiva idol.

Traffic police officials said that while two underpasses and a flyover are being constructed, vehicles on the highway will be diverted to the slip road constructed by the NHAI next to the carriageway towards Delhi, reports Hindustan Times. SS Yadav, Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said, “Traffic on NH-48 near Shiv Murti intersection will be diverted from the main highway to the newly constructed slip road. According to NHAI officials the construction work will be completed within 90 days.”

Project Director, NHAI Gurugram, Nirman Jambulkar said, “500 meters of road from Shiv Murti to Rajokri flyover will be affected during the construction. Work on the project started in 2019 and was expected to be completed in 2021, but The timeline for both the Delhi and Gurugram sections was revised due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Gurugram section is expected to be completed by July this year, while the Delhi section is expected to be completed by 2024.
