NHRC calls on chief secretaries of Delhi and three adjoining states regarding air pollution on November 10

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has not been convinced by the steps taken by several state governments to overcome the dangerous air pollution in Delhi-NCR, NHRC has summoned the chief secretaries of Delhi and three adjoining states to present on November 10 for marathon talks on the issue.

New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has not been convinced by the steps taken by several state governments to overcome the dangerous air pollution in Delhi-NCR. NHRC has summoned the chief secretaries of Delhi and three adjoining states to present on November 10 for marathon talks on the issue.  The commission has also asked the officials to present a report to the NHRC detailing the kinds of steps their governments have taken so far to stop the burning of stubble in their states.

Currently, Delhi is like a gas chamber where breathing is an issue. Different kinds of diseases are taking place. It is expected that this kind of pollution may lead to kidney and asthma diseases.

“The chief secretaries of these states are likely to convince the commission regarding their governments’ plans to stop the burning of stubble in their regions and their other steps towards lessening the air pollution in their discussion, which will be held on November 10.

The commission thinks that concrete steps should be taken to control the air pollution in Delhi-NCR.

The air pollution in the national capital region has been turning from bad to worse due to speed and rising farm fire incidents. Delhi reeled under ‘severe plus’ air quality with the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 472, while the AQI in Noida stood at 562 and in Gurugram (Haryana) at 539.
