NIA: NIA hawala case big action, 80 lakh rupees, nine gold biscuits and drugs seized in raid so far

The spokesperson said that the investigation has revealed that after the NIA registered the case in July 2022, another 13 people were arrested in December 2022 during raids conducted at 21 places in Tamil Nadu.

Security agencies are constantly taking action against terror in the country and those who patronize it. In this episode, the NIA has revealed the smuggling of illegal drugs and weapons between India and Sri Lanka. The NIA on Thursday raided eight suspected residential and business premises in Chennai. During the operation, the investigating agency seized Rs 80 lakh in cash, 9 gold biscuits, digital devices (mobile phones, memory cards), drugs and several important documents. NIA arrested one person after raids in Tamil Nadu. The big thing in this is that the purpose of this gang is to reactivate the Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

An NIA spokesperson said that Ayyappan Nandu was arrested on Thursday during raids at the residential and commercial premises of eight suspects in Chennai. So far 14 people have been arrested in this case.

Attempt to revive LTTE

The investigation so far in this case has revealed that the smuggling business of drugs and weapons was going on from India to Sri Lanka through hawala agents. It also includes a person named Shahid Ali, a resident of Chennai. In the investigation, it has been found that the smuggling of drugs and weapons was being done through hotels and businesses located in Chennai and Mannady. In the raid conducted on Thursday, 68 lakh Indian rupees, 1000 Singapore dollars, 9 gold biscuits of 300 grams have been recovered from Shahid Ali’s shop. At the same time, the NIA has recovered Indian currency worth Rs 12 lakh from the Orange Palace Hotel in Chennai.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday arrested KT Ramis, the alleged mastermind of the 2020 Kerala gold smuggling scam. Rameez was earlier arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and was out on bail. He has been sent to judicial custody. Earlier, Custom and NIA had arrested Rameez in the same case.
