Nigeria Train Crash: A passenger bus collided with a train in Nigeria, six people dead, dozens injured

Nigeria: Six people were killed and dozens injured after a train hit a bus that trying to cross the rail track ignoring a traffic signal in Lagos, Nigeria, said the emergency response agency on Friday. Ibrahim Farinloye, head of Nigeria's National Emergency Management Agency, said the bus was carrying government employees to work when it collided with an inter-city train.

Nigeria: Six people were killed and dozens injured after a train hit a bus that trying to cross the rail track ignoring a traffic signal in Lagos, Nigeria, said the emergency response agency on Friday. Ibrahim Farinloye, head of Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency, said the bus was carrying government employees to work when it collided with an inter-city train. Ibrahim Farinloy said, so far 84 people have been saved alive in this accident and taken to the hospital. Six people have died in the accident, including those who died in the hospital.

He said that all the injured people belonged to the bus. No passenger on board the train was hurt. He said that after being given first aid by the paramedics of the National Emergency Management Agency, the injured were shifted to the general hospital for further medical treatment.

Olufemi Oke-Osanintolu, secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, said the immediate cause of the accident was reckless driving by the bus driver. Oke-Osanintolu said that the incident happened due to the reckless driving of the bus driver. Before hitting the train, the bus driver tried to break the traffic signal of the train.

According to local residents, train and truck accidents are common in Nigeria’s cities. Traffic rules are usually not followed properly here. It is a serious problem in Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city and commercial hub, he said. However, in the recent years, the authorities have taken many strict measures to control the road and this type of accident.
