Istanbul: Indian woman boxer Nikhat Zareen (52kg) moved into the final, while two of her compatriots failed to progress. They will have to be satisfied with bronze medals in the women’s World Boxing Championships being held in Istanbul on Wednesday. Nikahat’s next opponent in the final would be Thailand’s Jutamas Jitpong. The golden girl of Indian boxing is looking to clinch a yellow metal at the championship.
In the important semifinal bout, Zareen beat his Brazilian opponent Caroline De Almeida 5-0 to secure a berth in the final. Zareen was totally in control and punched her opponent incessantly, gathering points at regular intervals in the semis. The Indian pugilist, in the end, outclassed her opponent and was set to fight for the title clash.
The 25-year-old boxer has been enjoying great success in 2022. A former youth world champion who bagged the gold at the prestigious Strandja Memorial Tournament in February this year.
Zareen looks in tremendous touch at the moment. She never allowed her opposite number to fox her in the ring. Her confidence is in the seventh sky. Hopefully, she will repeat the same performance in the final as well.
The Hyderabad girl has an opportunity to join the elite list of Indian women boxers, if she wins her final bout. Six-time champion MC Mary Kom, Sarita Devi, Jenny RL, and Lekha C are the only Indian women boxers who have clinched gold at the World Boxing Championships.
