Nagpur: Union minister Nitin Gadkari said, “Currently, politics means remaining in power.” It is not being used for social change and development. Speaking at an event, Gadkari also said he sometimes likes to leave politics because a lot of work needs to be done for society.
“We have to understand the real meaning of politics.” Is it for the benefit of society, the country, or just being in government? “asked Gadkari. “Politics has played a big role in social movements since Mahatma Gandhi’s time, when the main goal was the nation’s building and development,” the minister said.
The minister for road transport and highways was speaking at an event organised to felicitate social worker Girish Gandhi, who never discriminated among all political parties. A former MLC, Gandhi was previously attached with the NCP but quit the party in 2014.
The Lok Sabha member from Nagpur gave full credit to socialist leader late George Fernandes for his simple life. I got a lot of lessons from him, as he never cared for the paraphernalia of power. His lifestyle was inspiring.
“I even hate it whenever people bring me huge bouquets or put my posters,” he added.
