A police officer said that the incident took place in Bhusandpur village of Tangi area, about 40 km from Bhubaneswar, when crackers were being made for Holi festival in a house.
A firecracker manufacturing unit was being run illegally in the house. He was completely destroyed in the accident. He said that the fire department had to work hard to control the fire and evacuate the people.
Four people died on the spot and four others were seriously injured, who are undergoing treatment at the hospital. Khurda District Magistrate Sudarshan Chakraborty said that only one body has been identified so far.
He said, “Strong action will be taken against those responsible for the accident. No permission was taken from the administration to make crackers in the house.”
