Odisha: 6 killed and 7 injured as truck overturns and fell around 20 feet in Malkangiri district

Odisha: At least six labourers were killed and seven others injured after a cement-laden truck with these people on board overturned and fell around 20 feet below in Odisha's Malkangiri district on Saturday, police said.

Odisha: At least six labourers were dead and seven others injured after a cement-laden truck with these people on board overturned and fell around 20 feet below in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Saturday, police said.

A police source said that All the labourers are from Kosagumuda village in Nabarangpur district. After this incident, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over the death of people in the accident and announced a compensation of Rs 3 lakh for the families of the victims. He also ordered free-of-cost treatment for the injured persons and wished them a speedy recovery.

A senior officer said that the accident happened at Hantalaguda ghat in Swabhiman Anchal area when the truck was on its way to Jodamba from Chitrakonda. Personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF) stationed at Hantalguda security camp for anti-Maoist operations and local police rescued the injured labourers and shifted them to Chitrakonda hospital.

Nabarangpur MP Ramesh Majhi visited the hospital and enquired about the health condition of the injured after the incident. Giving information about this incident, officers said,”Five died on the spot, another injured person succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The injured workers were taken to a nearby government hospital at Jagadamba and later shifted to Chitrakonda.”
