Odisha: A massive fire breaks out at NTPC Kaniha power plant in Angul district

Odisha: A massive fire broke out at NTPC's Kaniha plant in Odisha's Angul district. After receiving information about this incident fire tenders and local police reached on the spot. Fire service officials said that till now there was no report of any injury.

Odisha: A massive fire broke out at NTPC’s Kaniha plant in Odisha’s Angul district. After receiving information about this incident fire tenders and local police reached on the spot.

Fire service officials said that till now there was no report of any injury. Official said that initial reports indicate that the fire erupted on the conveyor belt of the plant in the Talcher area, although the exact cause remains unclear.

The police officials said that a portion of the conveyor belt was damaged in the fire and the entire area has been filled with smoke.Multiple teams from the Odisha fire services department were rushed to the scene to initiate firefighting operations.

About this incident, NTPC officials said,”The fire broke out at 8.10 am at conveyor belt 15 A and B, as well as at coal transfer point 16, situated between Unit 2 and 3. Fortunately, the swift response by the CISF fire wing and plant disaster team contained and extinguished the flames effectively, minimising potential damage and casualties.”

They also said that as a precautionary measure, Unit 3 of 500 MW was temporarily shut down to facilitate fire containment efforts, while all other units remained operational.

They added that no casualties were reported in the incident. In a statement, NTPC assured that investigations into the cause of the fire are underway, with a focus on assessing damages and initiating necessary repair work.
