During the Chandan Jatra festival of Lord Jagannath in Puri, Odisha, a firecracker explosion injured 15 people. The accident happened on Wednesday night when many devotees gathered by the Narendra Pushkarinee waterbody to watch the festivities.
What Happened?
The explosion occurred when a burning firework splinter hit a pile of firecrackers, causing them to explode. The explosion sent burning debris into the crowd, causing injuries and forcing some people to jump into the water for safety. All injured were taken to the district hospital, with four in serious condition.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed sadness over the incident and ordered officials to ensure the injured receive proper medical care. He stated that the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund would cover all medical expenses. On ‘X’, Patnaik wrote, “Sorry to hear about the accident near Puri Narendra pool. The chief administrative secretary and the district administration have been directed to ensure proper treatment of the injured and monitor the system. All the medical expenses of the injured will be borne from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Wishing everyone good health.”

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also expressed his sorrow on ‘X’, saying, “I am saddened to hear the news of many injured in the unfortunate accident that took place at Narendra Pushkarini Devighat during the Puri Chandan Yatra. With the blessings of the Lord, it is my wish that those who are under treatment get well soon and return home.”
