Keonjhar/Odisha: At least seven people were killed and eight others critically injured after a van carrying 20 passengers fatally crashed into the rear of a truck parked on the National Highway No 20 near Balijodi village under Ghatagaon police limits in Odisha’s Keonjhar district in the wee hours of Friday.
The unfortunate incident unfolded when the Winger carrying seven people including the driver was on its way to pay obeisance in Maa’s temple. They were only three kilometres away from their destination when the deadly accident took place.
According to sources, the visitors were residents of Digapahandi of Ganjam district.
According to reports, the accident occurred when 20 people from Podamari village in Ganjam were on their way to Ghatgatarana Temple in the district in the van.
On being informed, Balijodi police reached the spot and rushed the injured to a nearby Ghatagaon health center, while the bodies were sent for post-mortem. After getting information, police reached the spot and started investigation into the matter.
