In the last 15-day period, Odisha reported 33 cases, followed by Bengal with 17 and Tamil Nadu with 16. The XBB is made up of a combination of Omicron’s BA.2.75 and BJ.1 variants. It was first detected in August in Singapore and the US. Scientists believe that the XBB sub-variant is able to overcome immunity, although it is still unclear whether the virus causes severe disease, requiring hospitalization for those infected. Fallen.

According to a reports, Singapore has registered an increase in the cases of coronavirus infection. However, the Ministry of Health there said that so far no evidence has been found that the consequences of the XBB sub-variant are serious. Since the WHO labeled Omicron a ‘type of concern’, its lineage and second generation variants are being treated the same way.

In India, according to scientists involved in genome sequencing, about 88% of the country’s new infections were due to the BA.2.75 variant, while the XBB sub-variant accounted for only about 7% of the total new cases. At the same time, the share of BA.5 variants in the transition was less than 5%.

The report quoted Dr Rajesh Karyakarte, Coordinator of Genome Sequencing, Maharashtra as saying, “XBB is a hybrid version of Omicron. We are closely monitoring its spread in Maharashtra. In Singapore, the XBB currently dominates all other Omicron sub-variants. XBB is detected in many parts of the world, but it is growing very fast in Singapore.
