On 20th anniversary of Devdas, Miss World Aishwarya Rai celebrates her film with a throwback pic of Paro

Mumbai: Famous writer Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay wrote the novel Devdas in the year 1917 and for the first time in 1955, Bimal Roy made a film on it. In old Devdas, Dilip Kumar played the role of Dev, Vijayatimala in the role of Chandramukhi and Suchitra Sen played the role of Paro. 20 years ago, Sanjay Leela Bhansali took the risk of making a film again on this powerful story. He made a film with the same title and gave place to many great actors including Shahrukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Madhuri Dixit, Jackie Shroff, Kirron Kher. On the occasion of completion of 20 years of Devdas, which proved to be a milestone in Hindi cinema, Miss World Aishwarya Rai celebrates her film with a pic of Paro.

She captioned the post with several emojis. Aishwarya`s post left many fans nostalgic. Reacting to the image, her husband Abhishek Bachchan dropped a red heart emoji. A netizen commented, “One of the best films. Can watch it on repeat.” “How time flies,” another one wrote. One social media user called the film a “masterpiece.”

Madhuri Dixit, who played Chandramukhi, a beautiful courtesan, celebrated the milestone with a video compiled with all her dialogues that stole the show in the film. In the caption, the actress wrote, “5 instances when Chandramukhi stole the show,” and added numerous hashtags like “milestone”, “20 years of Devdas,” “Tuesday Trivia.”

The team of Shah Rukh, Aishwarya and Sanjay had walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival 20 years ago. Aishwarya made her debut in a golden saree and gold jewellery as she stepped out of a traditional carriage at the venue.

Devdas got India’s entry in the Foreign Language Film category of the 2003 Academy Awards, but it could not get the nomination.

Meanwhile, Aishwarya is gearing up for the release of Ponniyin Selvan: I, director Mani Ratnam’s next. She will play Nandini, the Queen of Pazhuvoor in the epic drama. The film also stars Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha and Aishwarya Lekshmi. It will release on September 30.
