New Delhi: The process of evacuating other foreign nationals including Indians stranded in Sudan has picked up pace. The first batch of Indians has left from Sudan. Indian warship INS Sumedha left for Jeddah with 278 people on board. The Government of India has started Operation Kaveri to evacuate its citizens from there safely. Giving information about this, PM Modi said that our priority is to bring our people safely and its campaign has started. A three-day ceasefire has been announced amid the ongoing civil war in Sudan.
Significantly, the African country Sudan is currently battling a civil war. So far more than 400 people have died in the ongoing conflict between the army and paramilitary forces. Citizens of many countries including India are stranded there. About 3 thousand Indians are stranded in Sudan. Air Force ships are stationed in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, as soon as INS Sumedha reaches Sudan port, from there these people will reach India via Air Force aircraft.

Foreign Minister gave information
India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar had tweeted that Operation Kaveri is being run to bring back our citizens trapped in Sudan. India is committed to helping all our brothers in Sudan.
Civil war started on 15 April
Violence broke out in the capital Khartoum and other areas of Sudan on 15 April between forces loyal to army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo. Daglo commands the powerful paramilitary Rapid Support Force.
PM Modi had a high level meeting
At the same time, on April 21, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while holding a high-level meeting, had talked about keeping an emergency plan ready to evacuate Indians trapped in Sudan.
US Embassy closed in Sudan
On April 23, about 100 diplomats and their families from the US Embassy were airlifted in military aircraft for safe evacuation. The American Embassy has been closed for the time being. All work has been stopped here. It was also not told about when the work of the American Embassy in Sudan would be resumed.
