New Parliament: Congress, Trinamool Congress and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s party AAP have decided to boycott the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament House amidst the opposition’s demand for the President to inaugurate the new Parliament House. This was announced on Tuesday evening. The opposition parties have taken this decision in view of the questions being raised regarding the issue of not inviting the President to the inauguration ceremony. On May 28, PM Modi will inaugurate the new Parliament House in the presence of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. This ceremony will start at 12 noon.
Alleging violation of constitutional decorum, the opposition parties have argued that instead of PM Modi, President Draupadi Murmu should have been invited to dedicate the new Parliament building to the nation as head of Parliament. Opposition parties had boycotted the foundation stone laying ceremony of the new parliament building in December 2020 and they are likely not to attend the inauguration ceremony on Sunday as well.
Sanjay Singh said this
AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said that not inviting His Excellency President Draupadi Murmu ji to the inauguration ceremony of Parliament House is a grave insult. This is an insult to the Dalit tribal and deprived society of India. The Aam Aadmi Party will boycott the inauguration program in protest against not inviting His Excellency the President on behalf of PM Modi.
TMC surrounds PM Modi
If sources are to be believed, the parties will take a final decision on Wednesday after receiving the formal invitation. TMC leader in Lok Sabha Sudip Bandopadhyay said that TMC will boycott the inauguration of the new Parliament building on May 28.
Rahul Gandhi had also expressed opposition
Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had also opposed it. Rahul wrote on his social media handle – President Draupadi Murmu should inaugurate the new building of Parliament, not the Prime Minister.
