Outrage over Rishikesh murder: Ankita’s family agrees for cremation, says no to crowds

New Delhi: In the resort murder case in Uttarakhand, the victim’s family has now agreed to perform the last rites of the girl’s body. The father of the deceased girl has appealed to the local people to vacate the highway. The local people have blocked the highway in protest against this incident. The victim’s father has earlier demanded the hanging of the accused. He also said that he should be given the post-mortem report and the matter should be heard in the fast track court.

He told NDTV that he had informed the police only on September 18, the day his 19-year-old daughter went missing. He told, ‘Police did a good job later in the investigation, but it is the fault of the patwari (revenue officer). He has been negligent in his work. At the same time, he told that he has not demanded any compensation from the government yet.

The relatives of the deceased and the local people blocked the Srinagar-Kedarnath highway. They say that the administration has not yet acted on all their demands and till this happens they will continue to protest.

On Saturday, Uttarakhand Police Chief Ashok Kumar had assured the father of the deceased that he would try to hang all the accused. The recording of the conversation of the DGP with the father of the deceased was released by the state police.

Meanwhile, former BJP leader Vinod Arya, father of main accused Pulkit Arya, on Sunday called his son a straight boy and denied all the allegations against him. Vinod Arya said, ‘He is a simple child. He cares about his work. I want justice for both my son and the girl. The BJP expelled Vinod Arya and his son Ankit Arya from the party. Vinod Arya, however, claimed that he himself had resigned from the party on Saturday for a fair probe into the matter.
