Over 1 lakh people donated blood on PM’s birthday, created a new world record: Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya

Blood donation campaign started on Modi's birthday which crossed 1 lakh. Union Health Minister Mandaviya said that blood donation is a noble cause and in view of our rich culture and tradition of service and cooperation, I urge and appeal to all citizens to donate blood.

New Delhi: Under Raktdaan Amrit Mahotsav many people participated in this campaign that sets a new world record. The blood donation campaign started on the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made a record on the very first day itself. Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya said that on the occasion of PM Modi’s birthday, more than 1 lakh people made a new world record by donating blood.

Union Health Minister Mandaviya said in a tweet that a new world record! on Saturday the number of volunteers who have donated blood through the Raktdaan Amrit Mahotsav has surpassed one lakh. “Crossed 1,00,000…”

Earlier on Saturday, officials from the Ministry of Health announced that the country had set a world record by exceeding its previous high of 87,059 blood donations in 2014. Raktdaan Amrit Mahotsav is a countrywide mega voluntary blood donation drive that was launched on Saturday by Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, who donated blood at a blood donation camp at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi.

Mandaviya donated blood at a camp at Safdarjung Hospital, he urged citizens to register on Aarogya Setu App, e-Raktkosh portal so that people can donate blood on the occasion of ‘Raktadan Amrit Mahotsav’. This campaign will run till October 1. Officials said that the counting of those who donated blood on the first day is still going on.

So far 6,136 camps have been sanctioned across the country and around 1,95,925 blood donors have registered, in which over 87,137 people have donated blood, now it exceeded to 1 lakh, an official said.

Union Health Minister Mandaviya said that blood donation is a noble cause and in view of our rich culture and tradition of service and cooperation, I urge and appeal to all citizens to participate in the nationwide mega voluntary blood donation campaign – Rakta Daan Amrit Mahotsav. Come forward and donate blood. Blood donation not only fulfills the need but is also a great service to the society and humanity.
