Bhubaneshwar: In a tragic incident, More than 30 people have been injured in firework explosions during the immersion procession at Ballia Bazar of Sadar police station in Kendrapara, Odisha. Police said a firecracker bursting competition was organized at various puja pandals at the immersion site in Ballia Bazar, about 80 km from here.
Kendrapara DM Amrit Rituraj said, “More than 30 people have been injured in the explosions during the fireworks during the immersion procession at Ballia Bazar under Sadar police station of Kendrapara.” All the injured have been admitted to Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital.
According to reports, a spark from the fireworks fell on a pile of firecrackers, causing an explosion and injuring people. Police said several patients are admitted to the district headquarters hospital, while serious patients have been shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack.
“We have admitted the seriously injured to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack,” police said. An official said that the SCB Medical College and Hospital has made special arrangements for the treatment of burn patients.
A few days back, on November 21, a goods train derailed at Korai railway station in Odisha. 2 people had died in this accident. The station itself was also damaged. After the accident, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had expressed grief over the accident. He had announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the next of kin of those killed in the incident. At the same time, it was also announced to give 25,000 for the injured.
