Paddy procurement: Haryana farmers lift highway blockade after talks with state government

The farmers had closed the highway near Shahbad town of Kurukshetra. But now the government has accepted their demand to buy paddy crop soon.

Chandigarh: Farmers of Haryana were protesting on National Highway-44 near Kurukshetra for the last 21 hours. Due to which there was a long jam on the highway and traffic was disrupted. However, now that jam will open soon. The court asked the Haryana government to open the highway so that people can move without any hindrance. The court said that there should be no inconvenience to the public.

The farmers had closed the highway near Shahbad town of Kurukshetra. But now the government has accepted their demand to buy paddy crop soon. After which the farmers have agreed to move off the highway.

Farmers fear that their paddy crop will get spoiled due to humidity and rain. He also said that they do not have storage space, so the state government should extend the date of purchase.

The state government has said that it will start moving paddy from grain markets. However, October 1 will remain the official purchase date. Apart from this, the per capita purchase limit has been increased from 22 quintals to 30 quintals.
