Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted and congratulated the Padma awardees. He said, 'The country acknowledges his rich and varied contribution to India and his efforts to enhance the development path.'
New Delhi: On the occasion of Republic Day, the government has announced the prestigious Padma Awards. Six people, including former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, former foreign minister in the UPA government, SM Krishna and tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, have been selected for the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second highest civilian award.
It has been announced to give Padma Vibhushan to 6 celebrities, Padma Bhushan to 9 and Padma Shri to 91. This information has been given in an official statement issued on the eve of Republic Day. Along with Mulayam Singh Yadav, Dr. Dilip Mahalnabis and famous architect Balkrishna Doshi have been posthumously selected for Padma Vibhushan.
This year, no name has been announced for the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian award. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted and congratulated the Padma awardees. He said, ‘The country acknowledges his rich and varied contribution to India and his efforts to enhance the development path.’
Late investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, actor Raveena Tandon and Manipur BJP president Thounaojam Chaoba Singh were also honoured with the Padma Awards.

These honors are conferred by the President in formal ceremonies which are usually held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in March or April every year. The President has given approval for 106 Padma Awards for 2023. There are 19 women among the awardees. Seven people have been selected for this honor posthumously. The Padma Awards are one of the country’s highest civilian honors and are awarded in three categories – Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
