Thiruvananthapuram: Transgender has now started taking steps in the field of advocacy. Transgender Padma Lakshmi has become the first lawyer of Kerala. Padma got her enrollment done in the Bar Council on Sunday 19th March to practice in the court. After enrolling in the Bar Council, Padma Lakshmi was handed over the enrollment certificate on Sunday itself to practice. Would like to tell that Satya Shree Sharmila, who hails from Tamil Nadu, be came the first transgender lawyer in the country.
A graduate of Ernakulam Government Law College, Lakshmi was personally congratulated by Kerala Law Minister P Rajeev on the occasion.
The minister congratulated her on Instagram for this remarkable achievement. He lauded her vision to be the voice of the transgender community, which has been denied justice for long. He hoped that Lakshmi’s story would inspire others from the transgender community to follow suit and wished her success in her career.
“May Padma Lakshmi’s life inspire more people from the transgender sector to enter advocacy,” he added.

Padma Lakshmi’s achievement is being praised on social media after Joyita Mondal, who became India’s first transgender judge. She was appointed a judge in the Lok Adalat of Islampur in West Bengal in 2017.
In early 2018, transgender activist Vidya Kamble was appointed a member judge in a Lok Adalat in Nagpur in Maharashtra. Later that year, the country got the third transgender judge, Swati Bidhan Baruah, who hails from Guwahati.
