Pakistan: A vehicle that fell into a ravine off a mountain road in northwestern Pakistan, at least 11 tourists were killed and two were injured on Tuesday, officials said. The incident took place in the Sunder Lalko Valley near Gabin Jabba in the Swat Valley of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province when the vehicle carrying tourists slipped and fell into a deep gorge, police said.
Rescue officials said the 11 killed, identified as residents of Matta tehsil of Swat Valley, were on their way back home after a journey. Meanwhile, the condition of two injured is said to be critical and they are undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has expressed condolences to the bereaved families, and urged the authorities to provide the best and speedy medical care to the two injured.The Swat Valley is known for its fascinating natural sites with waterfalls and rugged granite cliffs, making it a favorite destination for trekkers and adventure enthusiasts.
Fatal road accidents are common in Pakistan due to poor road infrastructure and disregard of traffic laws as well as poorly maintained vehicles.Earlier this month, a passenger bus skidded off a mountain road and fell into a deep gorge due to heavy rains in southwest Pakistan, killing 19 people and injuring 12 others.
