Pakistan: 8 dead, 26 injured as terrorists open fire on bus in Gilgit Baltistan in POK

Pakistan: An official said that at least eight people lost their lives and 26 others injured when terrorists opened fire on a passenger bus in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir's Gilgit Baltistan region on Saturday.

Pakistan: An official said that at least eight people lost their lives and 26 others injured when terrorists opened fire on a passenger bus in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir’s Gilgit Baltistan region on Saturday.

The Deputy Commissioner Diamer Captain (Rtd) Arif Ahmad said that the incident occurred in the Chilas district. The bus was travelling from Gilgit to Rawalpindi when terrorists opened indiscriminate fire around 6:30 pm (local time) in Chilas, an official said.

The official further said that the driver lost control after the attack and the bus collided with a truck coming from the opposite side. Deputy Commissioner Diamer Captain (Rtd) Arif Ahmad also confirmed the death of eight people, adding that the Rawalpindi-bound bus was coming from Ghizer.

He further said five of the eight people killed in the attack were identified so far. He said 26 others were injured and shifted to a nearby hospital.

Giving information about this incident, the Deputy Commissioner said that two army soldiers, who were in the bus, were also among the dead and one personnel of the Special Protection Unit was injured in the attack.

Upon receiving information, rescue teams and the police reached the spot and shifted the injured and the deceased to a nearby hospital. According to the information, the people belonged to Kohistan, Peshawar, Ghizer, Chilas, Roundu, Skardu, Mansehra and Swabi regions and one or two people were from Sindh.

After the attack the terrorists managed to escape from the spot.The condition of many people is critical and the death toll is expected to increase further. According to the police, investigation into the attack has been started and a search operation is being conducted to nab the terrorists.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but the region has a history of terrorist attacks. Gunmen attacked a camp site for mountaineers in Gilgit Baltistan in 2013 and killed nine foreigners.
