Pakistan former PM Imran Khan addresses rally at Minar-i-Pakistan despite threats

Pakistan: Pakistan former Prime Minister Imran Khan held a rally at the historic Minar-e-Pakistan Maidan in Lahore despite threats from the government. Earlier, the interim government of Punjab had warned Imran to target political programs in Pakistan. According to reports, PTI Chairman Imran Khan reached the event venue with heavy security and addressed the crowd.

Pakistan: Pakistan former Prime Minister Imran Khan held a rally at the historic Minar-e-Pakistan Maidan in Lahore despite threats from the government. Earlier, the interim government of Punjab has warned Imran to target political programs in Pakistan. According to reports, PTI Chairman Imran Khan reached the event venue with heavy security and addressed the crowd.

Addressing the people, Imran Khan praised the arrival of his party’s supporters at the rally venue and said that despite all kinds of obstacles, a large number of people came to Minar-e-Pakistan. He said that one thing is clear, whoever is in power, will get the message today that people’s passion cannot be suppressed by barriers and containers.

Around 2,000 PTI workers have been put behind bars just because they could not attend today’s rally, he said. Fear was spread so that the rally should not take place. Imran Khan blamed the Pakistan government for the current situation in the country. He asked “Did our forefathers sacrifice for this Pakistan?

He was brought to Jalsa Maidan in a bulletproof container. Earlier, while giving its alert, the government had told that terrorists have reached Lahore with explosive material and they can target political rallies. Imran Khan was removed from the post of Prime Minister in April last year.

The Lahore High Court on Friday extended his anticipatory bail till March 27 in five other terrorism cases registered against Khan in Islamabad. The PMLN-led coalition government has registered over 140 cases against the former prime minister under terrorism, murder, attempt to murder and blasphemy during the last 11 months.

Imran Khan had on Saturday said on Twitter that he would talk about ‘Hakiki Azadi’ at a proposed rally here tonight. He urged his supporters not to hold back from joining it under any circumstances. He said that the rally of his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) at Minar-e-Pakistan would be the biggest rally ever and would break all records.

He had said that we will have our sixth jalsa at Minar-e-Pakistan and my heart tells me that it will break all records. I am inviting everyone in Lahore to join me after Tanmaaz. I will give my vision of real freedom and how we will get Pakistan out of its predicament.

According to the news of Geo News, the police have arrested more than 50 PTI workers from different areas. Khan, however, claimed that a total of 1,600 of his workers were taken only because they wanted to attend our Minar-e-Pakistan rally today.

The government has blocked the Ravi Bridge and the roads leading to Minar-e-Pakistan from the railway station, and containers have been placed in Shah Alam Market. So that people are prevented from going to the rally due to obstructions. However, Punjab’s Acting Information Minister Aamir Mir has denied this.

According to the information, the police separately arrested over 50 PTI workers from different areas of Rahim Yar Khan, while 26 workers, including PTI leader Javed Akhtar Ansari’s son, were arrested from Multan. PTI claimed that many workers have been detained from Lodhran and Bhakkar as well.
