Biden said, “What I think is maybe one of the most dangerous nations in the world, Pakistan. Nuclear weapons without any cohesion.” Reflecting on his relationship with China, Joe Biden said that former US President Barack Obama had assigned him the task of engaging with Xi Jinping.

Biden’s remarks could be seen as a setback to the Shehbaz Sharif government’s bid to advancing ties with the US.However, US Secretary of Defence Lloyd J Austin hosted an enhanced honour cordon for Pakistan Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa when he arrived at the Pentagon for an official meeting earlier last month.Notably, this was the same honour that Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar received at the Pentagon as he met Austin for bilateral talks.

At the event, Biden said there were enormous opportunities for the US to change the dynamic in the second quarter of the 21st century. “So, folks, there’s a lot going on. A lot going on. But there are also enormous opportunities for the United States to change the dynamic in the second quarter of the 21st century,” the US president said.

On September 8 last month, the Beden administration had approved the purchase of devices of $ 45 million (Rs 3,651 crore) for F-16 Fighter Jet, reversing the decision of the Trump Administration. This decision was considered a shock for India. The Trump Administration had stopped the military aid of Pakistan by protecting and supporting the Taliban extremists and Haqqani network of Afghanistan.
