Pakistan: Several children injured after massive IED blast near Peshawar Public School

Pakistan: An early hours of Tuesday, hospital and rescue officials said that Four children, aged 7 to 10, and an adult were injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast on Peshawar’s Warsak Road.

The spokesperson for emergency rescue services, Bilal Ahmad Faizi said that the incident happened near the Peshawar Public School at around 9:10 am. Citing Warsak Superintendent of Police Arshad Khan, it said that four kilogrammes of explosives, planted in a “cemented block” on the side of the road, were used in the blast.

Khan said that the area has been cordoned off and further investigation is underway. Mohammad Asim, a spokesperson for the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, said two of the children were in a critical condition.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. Peshawar, which straddles Pakistan’s tribal districts bordering Taliban-ruled Afghanistan, is frequently targeted by Islamic militant groups including the Islamic State and the Pakistani Taliban.
