Pant and Karthik are competing against each other for a place in the final XI for the uocoming Asia Cup.
New Delhi: Rishabh Pant, the Indian wicket-keeper-batter, replied candidly when he was asked regarding the threat from veteran Dinesh Karthik over his place in Team India for the upcoming Asia Cup.
Pant said that every player likes to always give his 100 percent to the team, and it is the concern of the captain, coach, and team management regarding the selection of the team.
Pant’s comments came at a time when former cricketers and experts raised the issue of whether India should select between Rishabh and Dinesh Karthik to make the side more balanced. In the view of experts, India can’t afford four bowlers and Hardik Pandya if both Pant and Karthik have been selected in India’s playing XI.
“We never think along those lines.” We always try to give our best possible performance to the team. As far as the selection of players is concerned, it depends on the coach and the captain and how they manage to get the maximum advantage from that, “Pant said.
Both Pant and Karthik have been competing against each other in T20I games since June. Selectors chose both together in the home series against South Africa and they travelled together to the West Indies for the shortest format of the game. Both are in different roles. The youngster is regarded as the wicketkeeper, while the veteran is considered the finisher.
Pant and Karthik haven’t been featured in the Zimbabwe tour, which is getting underway from August 18 onwards. However, both will be in the team for the Asia Cup, where India is set to play its opening encounter against arch-rivals Pakistan on August 28 at the Dubai International Stadium.
