Parameswaran Iyer set to take charge as NITI Aayog CEO this month

New Delhi: According to a Friday announcement from the Department of Personnel and Training, former Drinking Water and Sanitation Secretary Parameswaran Iyer has been named the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog. Iyer has been given a two-year appointment.

On June 30, 2022, the incumbent CEO, Amitabh Kant’s, term will come to an end, and Iyer will take over.

According to the official announcement from the Cabinet’s Appointments Committee, ” Parameswaran Iyer, lAS , Retd. has been approved for appointment as Chief Executive Officer, NITI Aayog and his tenure will start on 30.06.2022, for a period of two years or until further orders.

On February 17, 2016, Kant was inducted as the CEO of the National Institution for Transforming India (Niti Aayog) for a fixed two-year term. But he got an extension till June 30, 2019. Fortunately, he got another extension for two years, till this month-end.

Parameswaran Iyer, was born in Srinagar. The 63-year-old bureaucrat is an IAS officer of the 1981 batch of the Uttar Pradesh cadre. He did his schooling from  Doon School in Dehradun then attended prestigious St. Stephen’s College, Delhi.

As a bureaucrat he had worked in key positions like secretary in the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation. He was also engaged as a senior rural water sanitation specialist at the United Nations.

The government assigned him to implement its Swachh Bharat Mission in 2016. Iyer resigned as Secretary of the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation at the Ministry of Jal Shakti in 2021.
