Air India has imposed a 30-day ban on a passenger who behaved inappropriately and indecent on a New York-Delhi flight.

An Air India spokesperson on Wednesday said, “Air India has taken a very serious note of this incident, where a passenger on New York-Delhi flight behaved in an unacceptable and unbecoming manner, causing extreme inconvenience to a fellow passenger. “A police complaint has already been filed and Air India is committed to assist law enforcement agencies as well as regulatory authorities.

The airline said that it has reported the matter to the aviation regulator DGCA for further action. “As a first step, Air India has banned the passenger for 30 days, the maximum unilaterally permitted to do so, and has reported the matter to DGCA for further action,” the spokesperson said. The airline said it has constituted an internal committee to look into the lapses committed by the airline’s crew.

The incident reportedly took place on November 26, when an inebriated passenger allegedly urinated on a co-passenger in his 70s on a business class Air India flight from New York to Delhi. The woman complained about the matter to the crew and told them that her clothes, shoes and bag were soaked in urine. Reports said that the crew allegedly gave her a set of clothes and slippers and asked her to return to her seat.
