Peru Earthquake: Strong tremors of 7.2 magnitude earthquake felt in Peru, high tsunami alert issued

Peru Earthquake: Southern Peru earthquake shook the earth. A strong earthquake was felt in Peru on Friday. According to the US Geological Survey, an earthquake of 7.2 magnitude occurred 8 kilometers west of Atiquipa on Friday morning. It was at a depth of 28 kilometers. Meanwhile, the Honolulu-based Tsunami Warning Center said a tsunami warning has been issued.

The USGS raised the intensity rating shortly after the earthquake struck 8.8 kilometers (5.5 mi) off the Atikipa district. A 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of central Peru on Friday, the US Geological Survey said, with the potential to trigger tsunami waves in some coastal areas. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center had previously said there was no threat. After the earthquake, there has been a warning that waves up to three meters high may arise on some beaches.
