It’s official, Power Finance Corp (PFC) has sanctioned Rs 3,600 crore loan for Uttar Pradesh power distribution firms with regard to offering infrastructure for consumer electricity connections and last mile connectivity.

The scheme also consists of smart meters for having real time power consumption details.

According to government data, there are three crore households in rural areas in UP out of which only 1.49 crore families have connections.

The loan of Rs 3,600 crore is being given under the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS).

Talking about the IPDS, it came into the fray to assist states minimize AT&C losses; establish IT enabled energy accounting/ auditing system and most importantly improve energy billing taking into consideration the metered consumption.
