Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday condoled the death of former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry and said his death is a great loss to commerce and industry. 54-year-old Mistry died in a road accident on Sunday.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday condoled the death of former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry and said his death is a great loss to commerce and industry. 54-year-old Mistry died in a road accident on Sunday.

The accident took place when Mistry’s car rammed into a divider in Palghar district, adjoining Mumbai, a senior police official said. At that time Mistry was returning from Ahmedabad to Mumbai in a Mercedes car, the official said.

PM Modi tweeted, “The untimely demise of Mr. Cyrus Mistry is shocking. He was a leading industrialist who believed in the economic power of India. Condolences to his family and friends. may his soul rest in peace.’

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari tweeted – Deeply saddened to learn about the unfortunate demise of former Tata Sons Chairman Cyrus Mistryji in a road accident near Palghar, Maharashtra. Heartfelt condolences to his family members. God rest his soul peace.

Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra and RPG Enterprises Chairman Harsh Goenka also mourned Mistry’s death, describing him as someone destined for greatness and a man of substance.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal wrote on Twitter – Deeply saddened and shocked by the sudden demise of Cyrus Mistry. Indian industry has lost a shining star whose contribution to India’s economic progress will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde said- Shocked to hear about the demise of former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry. He was not only a successful entrepreneur but was also seen in the industry as a young, bright and visionary personality. This is a great loss… My heartfelt tribute.

Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis tweeted – Shocked and deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of former Tata Sons Chairman Shri Sairus Mistry in an unfortunate accident near Palghar. My deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. Oh peace After talking to the DGP, instructions have been given for a detailed investigation.

NCP leader Supriya Sule tweeted saying- A sad news… My brother Cyrus Mistry passed away. Can’t believe May God rest Cyrus’s soul in peace.

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar tweeted – Deeply shocked by the news of the demise of Cyrus Mistry. I remember many conversations we had in the last few years. My deepest condolences to his family.

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “Saddened by the untimely demise of former Tata Sons chief Cyrus Mistry. He was a very illustrious personality of the country’s industry, who made a significant contribution to the growth trajectory of India. My condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. Apart from this, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and many other leaders also expressed grief over Mistry’s death.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor looked back on a meeting he had with Mistry. “So shocked to hear of his untimely demise,” Tharoor said. “My heart goes out to his loved ones.”
