The accident took place when Mistry’s car rammed into a divider in Palghar district, adjoining Mumbai, a senior police official said. At that time Mistry was returning from Ahmedabad to Mumbai in a Mercedes car, the official said.
PM Modi tweeted, “The untimely demise of Mr. Cyrus Mistry is shocking. He was a leading industrialist who believed in the economic power of India. Condolences to his family and friends. may his soul rest in peace.’

Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra and RPG Enterprises Chairman Harsh Goenka also mourned Mistry’s death, describing him as someone destined for greatness and a man of substance.
