PM Modi directs to hire 10 lakh people in ‘mission mode’ in next 18 months to fill vacancies

New Delhi: The government has taken a step to cool down the soaring unemployment issue. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday directed the various government departments and ministries to recruit 10 lakh people in a “mission mode” in the next year and a half.

The direction from PM Modi came following a review of the status of human resources in all government departments and ministries, his office said.

The government has taken this decision to answer the opposition’s frequent criticism regarding unemployment.

“PM Narendra Modi reviewed the status of Human Resources in all departments and ministries and instructed that recruitment of 10 lakh people be done by the Government in mission mode in the next 1.5 years,” the PMO said in a tweet.

In response to a question in the Rajya Sabha in July last year, Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh had said that there were around 8.72 lakh vacant posts in different central government departments as on March 1, 2020. The sanctioned strength of all central government departments was 40.05 lakh, of which 31.32 employees were in position then.
