Dispur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is on a politically motivated visit to Assam and other poll-bound states before elections are announced, accused the previous governments on Monday of neglecting Assam and the northeast, while reaffirming his commitment to the development of the region. PM Modi is currently addressing public rally in Assam and is scheduled to visit West Bengal later in the day.
“Assam has everything that is enough for every Assamese. We just need to ensure that the double-engine of development that is already in place is strengthened. I assure the people of Assam that the speed of development will be increased,” he said.
Modi during his Assam visit inaugurated and lay the foundation stone of various projects in Silapathar, Dhemaji and dedicated to the nation three major projects in the petroleum sector and enumerated steps taken by the state government led by Sarbananda Sonowal and the Centre over the past few years. He also said they were working together for a balanced growth of the region.
“Those who ruled for decades since Independence believed Dispur was too distant from Delhi. ‘Dilli ab door nahi aapke darwaaze par hai’ (Delhi is not far now, it stands at your doorstep,” he told a massive gathering after inaugurating a slew of projects worth over Rs 3,300 crore.
Alleging Assam’s LPG coverage stands at nearly 100% PM Modi said that with the help of Ujjwala Yojana, LPG coverage in Assam stands at nearly 100% in the state.
“Till 2014, out of every 100 families, only 55 families had LPG gas connections. In Assam, this number stood at 40 even after a refinery was present in the state. With the help of Ujjwala Yojana, LPG coverage in Assam stands at nearly 100% today!” he said.
He also said that Assam goverment is working towards the creation of colleges for girls and polytechnic colleges in the region.
“The Dhemaji Engineering College is the first engineering college in North Bank. 3 such engineering colleges are also in the pipeline. The Assam govt is working at a massive level for such colleges for girls and even polytechnic colleges in the region,” he said.
PM Modi while adressing the large gathering in Assam reiterated that his government’s motto of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’ has led to rapid development in the state.
Works such as completion of Bogibeel Bridge and broad gauge railway line in North Bank have been done by our government.
Meanwhile, Modi in Bengal will address a public meeting in Chuchura, Dunlop Ground, Hooghly, West Bengal at 3:45 pm. Later, he will inaugurate several railway projects; including extension of Metro Railway from Noapara to Dakshineswar and flag off 1st service easing out access to Kali Temples at Kalighat and Dakshineshwar, 3rd line between Kalaikunda and Jhargham around 4:30 pm.
He will also dedicate doubling of Azimganj to Khargrhat Road section, a part of Howrah-Bandel-Azimganj station and 4th line between Dankuni and Baruipara of Howrah-Bardhaman Chord Line and 3rd line between Rasulpur and Magra.
This will be PM Modi’s third visit to poll bound Bengal within a span of weeks and before the dates of the crucial assembly polls in the state are to be announced.
