Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated nine medical colleges from Siddharthnagar in Uttar Pradesh. These colleges were inaugurated in the districts of Siddharthnagar, Etah, Hardoi, Pratapgarh, Fatehpur, Deoria, Ghazipur, Mirzapur and Jaunpur.
Later in the day, he will launch several other development projects during his visit to the poll-bound state.
During the inaugural event in Uttar Pradesh’s Siddharthnagar, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said, “Opening nine medical colleges in a day is no small thing. These medical colleges will benefit both present, future generations. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, medical education governance has improved. The government has opened 157 medical colleges in the country.”

What is Prime Minister Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana?
In a statement, the PMO said Prime Minister Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana (PMASBY) would be one of the largest pan-India scheme for strengthening healthcare infrastructure and will be in addition to the National Health Mission. Its objective is to fill gaps in public health infrastructure, especially in critical care facilities and primary care in both urban and rural areas. It will provide support for 17,788 rural health and wellness centres in 10 high focus states. Further, 11,024 urban health and wellness centres will be established in all the states.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that he is leaving for Siddharthnagar and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. “Today, India’s largest scheme to scale-up health infrastructure will be launched. Various medical colleges along with key development works will be inaugurated,” he said.
