Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday interacted with the Commonwealth Games contingent of India. Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur and Minister of State for Sports Nisith Pramanik were also present on the occasion. Earlier, Modi said that the whole country is proud of the achievements of our athletes in sports.
New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today met the Indian team, which made India proud by performing brilliantly in the Commonwealth Games-2022. Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur and Minister of State for Sports Nisith Pramanik were also present on the occasion. The Indian contingent ended the mega event with 61 medals to their kitty, including 22 gold. Stars like PV Sindhu, Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Lakshya Sen ended up winning the gold medal.
Earlier, PM Modi said – The whole country is proud of the achievements of our athletes in sports. Looking forward to interacting with India’s Commonwealth Games 2022 contingent at my residence. The official Twitter handle of Sports Authority of India (SAI) on Saturday put out pictures of the contingent getting ready to meet Prime Minister Modi at his home.

This meeting will also be memorable because the country is going to celebrate its 75th Independence Day. At the same time, ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign has also started from 13 to 15 August under the Amrit Festival of Independence.

Along with the historic performance in the Commonwealth Games, the country organized Chess Olympiad for the first time, not only organized a successful event but also produced the best. After 2 days, the country is about to complete 75 years of independence. It is a matter of pride that the country is entering the nectar of independence with an inspiring achievement by the hard work of all of you.

With this performance, the inclination of youth towards new sports in the country is going to increase a lot. All of you were competing there, but crores of Indians were performing here. Till late night, your every action, every move was in the eyes of the countrymen. Many people slept with alarms that would update your performance.
India has won 22 Gold, 16 Silver and 23 Bronze
In the Commonwealth Games 2022 held in Birmingham, India finished fourth with 61 medals including 22 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze. From 28 July to 8 August, around 200 Indian athletes displayed their talent for medals in 16 different sports at the Commonwealth Games 2022. In this, wrestling topped the medal tally with 12 medals including six gold, while 10 medals were won in weightlifting.
India posted their fifth best ever performance in their Commonwealth Games history, with their best total of 101 medals. This performance was done in the 2010 Games held in India itself. One of the major highlights of the mega event was Nikhat Zareen bagging the gold medal. After winning a medal in the final of the women’s 50kg light flyweight category, Zareen said she is looking forward to meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She will have his autograph on his boxing glove.
Indian star boxer and world champion Nikhat Zareen defeated Carly MC Naul of Northern Ireland in the women’s 50kg (light flyweight) final. Zareen retained her ‘world champion’ status as she dominated Carly in all three rounds. Based on the points obtained, they won 5-0.
The Commonwealth Games 2022 concluded with a grand closing ceremony at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on Monday (8 August). The Commonwealth Games flag was presented to the Governor of Victoria. Australia’s Victoria state will be the next host of the Commonwealth Games to be held in 2026.
