Srinagar: Keeping up the tradition of celebrating festivals with army personnels, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached to celebrate Diwali with soldiers, this time at Jammu and Kashmir’s Nowshera sector. Upon his arrival, he met top Army officials and paid tributes to soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty. He also praised the soldiers serving in border areas, pointing that they were the “suraksha kawach” (armour) of the nation.

“Our soldiers are the “suraksha kawach” of “Maa Bharti”. It is because of you all that people of our country can sleep peacefully and there is happiness during festivals,” the Prime Minister said while addressing the soldiers at Nowshera.

After his address to the troops, he met the soldiers and exchanged sweets with them to celebrate Diwali. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also interacted with veterans at Nowshera, which is close to the LoC.

Ahead of PM Modi’s visit, Army Chief General MM Naravane on Wednesday carried out aerial reconnaissance of forward areas and was briefed about the prevailing security situation along the Line of Control (LOC) in the Jammu region.

This is not the first time that Prime Minister Modi is celebrating Diwali with the soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier in 2019, after the removal of Article 370, he celebrated Diwali with the soldiers posted in the Rajouri district.

Last year, during the coronavirus pandemic, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had celebrated Diwali with soldiers posted in Longewala, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.

“For your sacrifices, your gallantry, each Indian will light at least one diya for you today on the occasion of Diwali,” said PM Modi to troops in Nowshera Sector of J&K.

Last week, two soldiers including an officer were killed in a mine blast in the same sector.
