PM Modi meets with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz & US President Joe Biden, at G-7 summit in Germany

Elmau: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is in Germany for the G-7 summit, will discuss topics like energy, food security, counter terrorism, environment, and democracy with the leaders of the G-7 and its allies during his two-day visit to Germany for the summit.

“G-7 leaders will align and expand targeted sanctions to further restrict Russia’s access” to Western technology that can support the Russian arms industry, the White House said.

Leaders have decided on new steps to isolate Russia’s economy, including a ban on new imports of Russian gold, and are pledging support for Zelenskyy as his country suffers setbacks.

Here are the excerpts from PM Modi’s two-day visit to Germany.

PM Modi met with top leaders of the world, including US President Joe Biden and Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, at the G-7 Summit in Germany.

G7 statement on Ukraine: We are ready to grant or have pledged and provided up to USD 29.5 Billion of Budget support in 2022.

G7 vows ‘financial, humanitarian, military and diplomatic’ support for Ukraine ‘for as long as it takes’.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is attending the G7 Summit under the German Presidency, at the invitation of Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz.

During the summit, Modi will exchange views with the leaders of the bloc and its partners on issues such as energy, food security, counter-terrorism, environment and democracy.

Before the start of the summit, Prime Minister Modi shook hands with US President Joe Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as the leaders assembled for a group photo.

Addressing the summit in the Bavarian Alps via video link, Zelenskyy also asked for help to export grain from Ukraine and for reconstruction aid, the European official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Zelenskyy asked for anti-aircraft defence systems, more sanctions on Russia and security guarantees as he addressed leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) summit, a European official said.

The leaders of the world’s seven richest countries are expected to focus on the Ukraine crisis that has triggered geopolitical turmoil besides fuelling a global food and energy crisis.

“I will be attending the G-7 Summit today in which we will discuss various important global issues,” PM Modi tweeted.
