PM Modi reaches Dehradun to visit Kedarnath-Badrinath today, lay foundation stone of 9.7-km ropeway

He slated to lay the foundation stones for several projects in Kedarnath and Badrinath dhams, including the 9.7-km Gaurikund-Kedarnath ropeway and road-widening of the national highway 7

New Delhi: PM Modi arrived in Dehradun to visit Kedarnath and Badrinath Dham in Uttarakhand today , received by U’khand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami & Governor. In view of the visit, security arrangements have been tightened in the area, an official said. He is all set for his two-day Uttarakhand trip starting today.

He slated to lay the foundation stones for several projects in Kedarnath and Badrinath dhams, including the 9.7-km Gaurikund-Kedarnath ropeway and road-widening of the national highway 7 that connects Hindu pilgrim centres such as Rishikesh, Joshimath, and Badrinath with Dehradun and Chandigarh and national highway 107 from Rudraprayag to Gaurikund.

According to the information released by the PMO i.e. Prime Minister’s Office, PM Narendra Modi will reach Kedarnath temple at around 8.30 am today and will have darshan and worship there. After this, he will lay the foundation stone of Kedarnath ropeway project at around 9 o’clock. Not only this, Prime Minister Modi will also visit the Samadhi Sthal of Adi Guru Shankaracharya and review the ongoing development works on the banks of river Mandakini and Saraswati.

According to the Prime Minister’s program, PM Modi will then reach Badrinath at around 11.30 am and then worship and visit the temple there. The Prime Minister will review the progress of riverfront development work there and lay the foundation stone for the road and ropeway project in Mana village. After this, at around two o’clock, the Prime Minister will also review the development work of ‘Arrival Plaza’ and lakes.

The PMO said that these infrastructure development programs will give a boost to tourism in Uttarakhand and this will boost economic activities in the region. During this visit of the Prime Minister, the foundation stone of projects worth Rs 1,000 crore for widening of roads will also be laid. Actually, the ropeway of Kedarnath will be 9.7 km long and it will connect Gaurikund with Kedarnath. This will reduce the travel time to both the places by about 30 minutes.

At present, it takes six to seven hours to cover this distance. At the same time, the ropeway of Hemkund will connect Govindghat with Hemkund Sahib. Its length will be about 12.4 km. With this, this distance can be covered in 45 minutes. Right now it takes about a day to cover this distance. This ropeway will also connect Ghangaria with the Valley of Flowers National Park. These ropeways will be developed at a cost of about Rs 2430 crore. These will be environment friendly and traveling with them will be easy and safe too.
