PM Modi to host 9th P20 summit today, G20 nations Parliamentary Speakers to attend event

In view of rising diplomatic tension between India and Canada in recent times, Canada Senate Speaker Raymonde Gagne has distanced herself from the P20 meeting. On Thursday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla met Parliamentary delegates from G20 and special invitee nations, who are in Delhi to participate in the upcoming summit.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 9th Parliamentary Chairmen Summit (P20) of G20 at 11 am today at the newly opened Yashobhoomi convention centre in New Delhi on Friday. Speakers of Parliaments of G20 members and other invitee countries will participate in this conference. Its theme is Parliament for One Earth, One Family, One Future. According to the information, the Speaker of the Senate of Canada will not attend the P20 meeting. She did not even attend the pre-summit meeting of parliamentary speakers.

In view of rising diplomatic tension between between India and Canada in recent times, Canada Senate Speaker Raymonde Gagne has distanced herself from the P20 meeting. On Thursday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla met Parliamentary delegates from G20 and special invitee nations, who are in Delhi to participate in the upcoming summit.

The event will be attended by Speakers of Parliaments of G20 members and invitee countries. The Pan-African Parliament will have maiden participation in the P20 summit after the African Union became a member of G20 at the New Delhi G20 leaders’ summit on September 9 and 10.

The thematic sessions during this P20 Summit will focus on the following four subjects – Transformation in People’s Lives through Public Digital Platforms; Women-led development; Accelerating SDGs; and Sustainable Energy Transition.

Actually the P20 summit has started on Thursday. But the main event is today i.e. on 13th October and 14th October. On the first day of the conference, several programs will be organized on the theme of Parliamentary Forum on Life. The main theme of this conference has been kept as Parliament for One Earth, One Family, One Future. These programs have been finalized under the leadership of Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

Milton Dick, Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives; Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad of Bangladesh; Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council, UAE; and Ashebir Woldegiorgis Gayo, Acting President, Pan African Parliament were among the attendees during meeting with Birla.

Before the P20, India had hosted the G-20 summit in September. In this summit which ran from 9-10 September, leaders from all over the world met and discussed with each other. It was organized at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi. In this summit, the question regarding permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council was also raised. All the countries agreed to the manifesto of the G20 conference.

Apart from this, India had bilateral talks with all the countries. US President Joe Biden said that this G-20 conference has raised expectations. This organization can solve even the most complex problems.
