In a landmark development, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation of projects amounting to approximately Rs 18,000 crore during his two-day tour of Assam. This visit marks a significant commitment to the region’s growth and addresses the pressing needs of its residents.
During his first-ever visit to the UNESCO heritage site Kaziranga National Park, PM Modi is scheduled to undertake a safari, underlining the government’s focus on environmental conservation and heritage sites. Arriving on Friday afternoon, the Prime Minister will spend the night at Kaziranga National Park, emphasizing the importance of the region’s natural and cultural treasures.
The following day, PM Modi will inaugurate the impressive 125-foot tall statue of Ahom general Lachit Borphukan in Jorhat. Subsequently, he will address a public meeting where, from the venue, he will launch and lay the foundation stone for a diverse array of infrastructure development projects collectively valued at Rs 18,000 crore. This multifaceted initiative aims to bolster the region’s connectivity, enhance living standards, and promote overall development.
In preparation for PM Modi’s visit to Kaziranga National Park, local authorities have temporarily closed jeep safaris and elephant rides in the Kaziranga range of Kohora from March 7 to 9. This measure reflects the significance of the Prime Minister’s engagement with the natural and cultural heritage of Assam.
Chief Minister Sarma highlighted that PM Modi would also address a rally at Meleng Meteli, inaugurating various projects supported by both the central and state governments. Additionally, the Prime Minister will participate in the ‘Griha Pravesh’ ceremony, marking the house-warming for 5.5 lakh houses constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). This ceremony underscores the government’s commitment to providing quality housing for the citizens of Assam, promoting inclusive development across the state.
