New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on Jammu-Kashmir tour today. After the removal of Article 370, PM Modi is going to Kashmir for the first time today. He will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several development projects in Srinagar and will also address an election public meeting.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil multiple development projects and address a public meeting in Srinagar today, During his first visit to Kashmir after his government abrogated the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution.

According to an official statement, PM Modi will attend the ‘Develop India, Develop Jammu Kashmir’ event at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar and inaugurate projects worth about Rs 5,000 crore to boost the agricultural economy in the Union Territory.

Officials said that in view of PM Modi’s program, strict security arrangements have been made at Bakshi Stadium so that no untoward incident happens. He told that the entire stadium has been painted in the colors of the tricolor. With Lok Sabha elections approaching and opposition parties demanding announcement of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, all eyes are on what Prime Minister Modi says on these issues.

On August 5, 2019, the central government abrogated most of the provisions of Article 370 and divided the state into two union territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a statement on Wednesday that Modi will launch the ‘Hamagra Agriculture Development Program’ (HADP) worth about Rs 5,000 crore to boost the agri-economy.

HADP is an integrated program covering the complete spectrum of activities in three major sectors of agri-economy in Jammu and Kashmir, namely, horticulture, agriculture and livestock rearing. This program is expected to provide skill development training to about 2.5 lakh farmers through the dedicated Daksh Kisan Portal.

Under the programme, around 2,000 farmer ‘Khidmat Ghar’ will be set up and strong value chains will be established for the welfare of the farming community. According to the statement, this program will generate employment which will benefit lakhs of marginal families of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to officials, a large number of security forces have been deployed on the routes through which PM Modi will pass during his visit to Srinagar, while barricades have been installed at many places to prevent the movement of people during the VVIP visit.

Drones and CCTV cameras are being used for surveillance, while security forces are patrolling on foot within a two-kilometre radius around the venue. He said that areas like Jhelum River and Dal Lake will be closed to prevent any subversive activity. Marine commandos have been deployed to prevent the use of water bodies.

Many schools falling on the Prime Minister’s route during his visit have been closed for Wednesday and Thursday, while the board examinations scheduled for Thursday have been postponed till next month. According to the official statement issued on Wednesday, Prime Minister Modi will launch the ‘Humphal Agriculture Development Program’ (HADP) worth about Rs 5,000 crore to boost the agri-economy in Jammu and Kashmir.
