PM Modi to Launch Semiconductor Projects, Boosting Employment and Tech Growth

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate three groundbreaking semiconductor projects today, marking a significant stride towards India’s tech advancement. The projects, valued at approximately ₹1.25 lakh crore, aim to transform India into a global semiconductor hub, fostering employment opportunities and bolstering sectors such as electronics and telecom.

The cornerstone ceremonies include the establishment of a semiconductor fabrication facility at the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) in Gujarat, an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Assam’s Morigaon, and another OSAT facility in Sanand, Gujarat.

Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL) will spearhead the fabrication (fab) facility at DSIR with an investment exceeding ₹91,000 crore, marking India’s maiden commercial semiconductor fab. Additionally, TEPL will establish the OSAT facility in Morigaon, investing around ₹27,000 crore. The OSAT facility in Sanand, backed by CG Power and Industrial Solutions Limited, will see an investment of about ₹7,500 crore.

These initiatives underscore PM Modi’s vision to elevate India’s standing in semiconductor design, manufacturing, and technology, propelling youth employment opportunities. The projects are expected to fortify the semiconductor ecosystem and create a ripple effect, spurring growth across electronics, telecom, and allied industries.

The launch event, “India’s Techade: Chips for Viksit Bharat,” will witness active participation from youth, including college students, alongside leaders from the semiconductor industry. This marks a significant milestone in India’s journey towards technological self-reliance and economic growth.
