PM Modi Updates on Uttarkashi Tunnel Rescue, Vertical Drilling Breakthrough Achieved

In a significant development on the 11th day of the Uttarkashi tunnel rescue operation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to inquire about the progress. CM Dhami informed PM Modi about the positive strides made in the last 24 hours. The rescue efforts, which began after the tunnel collapse on October 12, aim to reach 41 trapped workers.

Here are the latest updates:

Progress in Communication: Family members have managed to communicate with the trapped workers through radio and pipes. In a heartening move, the workers were provided with hot cooked food on Tuesday evening, including veg pulao, matar-paneer, and chapatis with butter.

Vertical Drilling Breakthrough: A major breakthrough occurred on Wednesday morning as a location for vertical drilling was identified. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) played a crucial role in constructing roads near the tunnel site, overcoming challenges faced by a stuck machine the previous day.

Road Construction Update: Director of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation, Anshu Manish Khulko, reported that the road work for vertical drilling on the hill above the tunnel is nearly complete. BRO is constructing roads from both Silkyara and Barkot sides, with over 350 meters of road construction already finished.

Supplying Essentials: Earlier attempts to provide essentials to the trapped workers included laying a 6-inch pipe for food delivery. While bananas, oranges, and medicines were sent through the pipe on Monday evening, Tuesday saw a more substantial meal with veg pulao, matar-paneer, and chapatis.

Visual Confirmation: An endoscopy camera was introduced into the tunnel, capturing visuals of the trapped workers for the first time since the collapse. This technology aids in assessing the workers’ conditions and coordinating rescue strategies.

As the rescue operation enters a critical phase, the identified location for vertical drilling marks a significant advancement. The combined efforts of various agencies, including the BRO, indicate a determined push to reach and rescue the trapped workers in the Uttarkashi tunnel.
