Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district to meet women from Sandeshkhali who have reported sexual violence allegations against TMC leaders. BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari shares insights on the visit, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
Sources indicate that PM Modi will potentially visit Barasat in North 24 Parganas on March 7, pending finalization of dates by the Prime Minister’s Office. Adhikari, who is also granted permission by the Calcutta High Court, plans to visit Sandeshkhali with four to five MLAs.
The BJP criticized the TMC, accusing them of permitting “goons” to target Hindu women and commit sexual assaults. BJP MP Locket Chatterjee claimed that houses of women alleging assault were being looted, amplifying the seriousness of the situation.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, however, blamed the BJP for orchestrating the unrest in Sandeshkhali, suggesting it was scripted with the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The crisis originated when an ED team, en route to raid TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan, was attacked, leading to Shahjahan’s hiding. Multiple women from the village subsequently made allegations of sexual exploitation and land grabbing against Shahjahan and his associates.
Two TMC leaders, Shibaprasad Hazra and Uttam Sardar, close aides of Sheikh Shahjahan, have been arrested on gang rape charges after women from the village filed complaints. The situation remains tense, with political implications and ongoing investigations adding complexity to the unfolding events.
