PM Narendra Modi installs historic ‘Sengol’ in new parliament building, speaker Om Birla present

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi installed Sengol inside the building during the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building. The historical scepter Sengol has been installed next to the seat of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. During this Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla was also present. A day earlier, the Adhyanam (monastery) of Tamil Nadu had handed over Sengol to the Prime Minister.

After the establishment of Sengol, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly constructed building of Parliament and dedicated it to the country. After the inauguration of the new Parliament House, Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored the workers who worked in the construction of the building. After the inauguration, an all-religion prayer meeting was held. Religious leaders of many religions, including Buddhist, Christian, Jain, Parsi, Muslim, Sikh, offered their prayers in the all-religion prayer. Prime Minister and other seniors were present in this.

A day before the inauguration i.e. on Saturday (May 27), Prime Minister Narendra Modi had met the saints of Adhyanam (monastery) at his residence. During this, the saints had presented a 5 feet tall Sengol to the Prime Minister. This is the same subordination which was handed over to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru by Lord Mountbatten, the last British Governor General of India, on the occasion of India’s independence on August 15, 1947, at the time of symbolic transfer of power.

During this, the PM said, “Tamil Nadu has played an important role in our freedom struggle. The contribution of Tamil people in India’s independence was not given the importance it should have been given. Now BJP has started raising this issue prominently.

He said that in Tamil tradition, sengol was given to the person who ruled the country, sengol was a symbol of the fact that the person holding it is responsible for the welfare of the country and will never deviate from the path of duty.
